Marty, Bonnie Jean and Arte returned to Healdsburg energized and inspired by their visit to the Natural Foods Expo West 2012 in Anaheim. This year's expo drew the largest crowd ever - over 60,000 industry attendees and 2,000 exhibiting companies - with clear attention to the most critical matters currently facing the industry. Of huge presence and significance was the growing demand to label GMO (genetically modified organism) foods, led by the Non GMO Project, which Shelton's supports and endorses. Emphasis on the "Non GMO Project Verified" seal, ever-increasing understanding of the broad benefits of organic farming practices, and robust discussion around the issue of United States/European Union organic equivalency(an arrangement finalized in February between the governments of the US and the EU addressing marketing of organic products) dominated the exhibit halls and presentations. From our earliest days in the natural foods retail business with our Food for Thought markets, the Shelton family has been dedicated to bringing the healthiest possible choices in natural and certified organic foods to our customers. This year's Expo served to underscore the importance of those choices, and we're excited about continuing our strong focus on fresh certified organic produce from our own Shelton's Market Garden, cutting edge natural and organic body care and supplements, and all the high quality organic ingredients you need every day in the grocery aisles.
